Notes: Estimates the number of homeless individuals and families based on local homeless coalitions' 2015
point-in-time surveys and county school districts' identification of homeless students.
Point-in-time counts include people in emergency shelters, transitional housing, and unsheltered locations,
while school data are used to identify families and unaccompanied youth who are doubled up with others or living in hotels
or motels.
Homeless "individuals" include single adults, unaccompanied youth, married adults without children,
and family groups composed of minors (e.g. adolescent parents with children, sibling groups without an accompanying adult).
"Families" refers to households including adults and related children, mostly parents with children.
